Folklorist Manuel MartÃnez Moles was born

He was born in Cabaiguán, Sancti SpÃritus, in February 10th, 1863 and died in 1951. Fighter in 1895 Independence War. He worked as journalist and occupied different public responsibilities. Senator from Santa Clara from 1921 to 1929. Correspondent Member of the Academy of History of Cuba, President of the Department of Economical Studies of the Economical Society of Friends of the Country. Part of his historic and folkloric work referred to Sancti Spiritus remains unedited.

Pianist, composer and orchestra conductor Jorge González Allué was born.

He was born in Camagüey, on February 10th, 1910 and died on November 3rd, 2001. Pianist, composer and orchestra conductor. At the age of 15 he graduated on piano, solpheggio and theory in the National Conservatory. He practised musical professorship. In 1935 his jazz band appeared. He was interested on the musical folklore of Cuba and America, having produced some programs of this kind.
He wrote 387 songs, many of them played in night clubs, Houses of Trova, Houses of Culture and all sort of stages at present. His first song, "Corazón mudo", was composed in 1927, and in 1931 he staged a version of "Motivos de Son" (from Nicolás Guillen book), as well as songs and instrumental arrangements for orchestra, on his first public concert. His "Amorosa guajira", has been quite played. He wrote numerous stories and poems he used to recite to his friends. He created music for Federico GarcÃa Lorca works and conceived boleros, songs, guarachas, lyric comedies, waltzes and other musical genres.
He was also a reknown pianist and shared stages with famous artists in Cuba and other countries, being among them: Bola de Nieve, Ester Borja, Ernesto Lecuona and Rita Montaner. He toured different countries, he settled and conducted the González Allué Orchestra and the Yemayá.
Besides, he was professor of piano and along his life he felt grateful to those honoured him in stage and truly enjoyed his compositions.

Clarinetist, professor and dancing orchestra conductor Marino CoÃmbra was born.

He was born in Cienfuegos on February 10th, 1913. During the long period he lived in the City of Cienfuegos, at the end of XX Century and beginning of the XXI, he was very important for the development of musical activities. His prestigious orchestra entertained the most important dances, not only in Cienfuegos, (aka "The Pearl of South"), but also in other places of the island.
1940
Singer Roberto Torres was born.

He was born in Güines, on February 10th ,1940. He began singing in the Swing Casino Orchestra, in his hometown. Later he sang in the Conjunto Universal. In 1959 he settled in New York, and performed with Fajardo and Broadway orchestras. Later he joined the Sonora Matancera. From many long years he sings as soloist. He has recorded several Cuban and Caribbean music LP records.
1991
Rumba composer Gonzalo Arsenio died.

He was born in Havana in April 5th, 1919 and died in February 10th, 1991. Aka as "TÃo Tom" ("Uncle Tom"). he began singing, playing and dancing rumba in festivities and meetings in his neighborhood, in Cayo Hueso, in Atarés, and in other Havana City neighborhoods. Since he was 15 years old he composed insuperable guaguancós, being among the most popular: "Me regaña el corazón", "Los cubanos son rareza", "Chango vá venÃ", "Una chambelona", "Donde están los cubanos", "Consuélate como yo", "Mal de yerba", "Tierra brava", "Este es mi paÃs", "Rumbearemos y cantaremos", "Bombón", "Se ha vuelto mi corazón un violÃn" and others. He joined a surprising melodic and rhytmic imagination to the beauty and quality of his lyrics. He sang to recent social and political events, to love, to friendship, to urban city world. He was a self-taught musician who had an extraordinary ability for improvisation.
