She was born on February 11th, 1923, in the city of New York. RosalÃa Palet Bonavia, known as Rosita Fornés among the people. Her debut took place in 1939 in the zarzuela El asombro de Damasco, premiered in La Comedia theater. From then on a skyhigh career, which took her to premier operettes and zarzuelas by Ernesto Lecuona, Gonzalo Roig and Rodrigo Pratts, alternating with popular tunes.
The National Lyrical Theater as well as the musical owe a lot to Rosita, who is also remembered in theatre plays like "A Doll´s House" by Henryk Ibsen, "Camelie" by Alexander Dumas, "An Streetcar Named Desire", by Tennessee Williams, among many others. Great versatility artist she performed in the four media: Movies, Theatre, Radio and TV. Her debut in film took place in 1944, in El deseo, based upon the novel of Hermann Sudermann. produced in Mexico, where she stayed for long seasons. There she gets quite active in radio, movies and theater, thus becoming the "First Latin American Vedette" . There she always became elected "Queen of the Mexican Film Studios". She acted in about 15 films, and before 1959 she is remembered "Piel Canela", "El mariachi desconocido", "Mujeres de teatro", among many others.
Around 1952, she began acting in TV lyrical, dramatic and humoristic programs: In this media she is proclaimed "Miss Television" on behalf of her prestige and popularity.
The first vedette of Cuba and Latin America was always linked to Cuban Culture, to which she have offered her best efforts in Cuban and international stages. After the Triumph of the Revolution of 1959 she has performed remarkable roles in the films: "Se permuta", "Plácido" and "Papeles secundarios". On international stage: the United States of America, Venezuela, Honduras, Puerto Rico and Spain, as well as Easterm European countries, visited several times by her, known about her artistic talent dispalyed on varietés and recitals from 1960, that included a wide and assorted range of genres such as: operetta, zarzuelas, ballads and Afro Cuban rhythms.
Among the acknowledgements and medals won by Rosita Fornés, outstands the Distinction for the National Culture, the First Grade "Félix Varela" Order and the 2001 National Award on Theatre.
