He was born in Havana on April 11th, 1916. He studied with his mother, Clara Romero, and later, in ParÃs, with Emilio Pujol, in 1939. He developed researches on vihuela and old guitar, in Paris, London, Madrid, Barcelona and New York. He performed concerts and delivered lectures in Cuba and other countries. In 1951 he began working in the Municipal Conservatory of Havana as professor, and some time later he became its director. He presided the Scientific-Technical Council of Music teaching. He has formed excellent guitarists who are part of the Cuban School of Guitar, like Maestro Leo Brouwer.
