He was born in Valencia, Spain, in February 12th, 1855 and died in Havana in July 11th, 1937. Being from Cuban parents, he lived in Cuba since he was a child, where he studied violin, piano, harmony, counterpopint, fugge, instrumentation and composition. Author of numerous zarrzuelas, being among them: El sombrero de Felipe II, El barberillo de Jesús MarÃa, Los amores de EloÃsa, Globos dirigibles and others, almost all staged at the Alhambra theater. He also composed an opera: La esclava, in three acts, script by Tomas Julia, premiered in June 6th, 1921, in the National Theatre. He travelled for different countries.
He conducted the National Band of Colombia, collecting money in artistic tournees for the Cuban Independence War, during those years. Besides he composed several symphonic works, hymns, counterdances, danzones, songs and some religious pieces.
