Writer José Jacinto Milanés died.

He was born in Matanzas in August 16th, 1814 and died in November 14th, 1863. He attended the school of Ambrosio José González; and learned Latin with Francisco Guerra Betancourt, to whom he substituted sometimes in his Chair. The rest of his education was his personal labor. He perfectly knew Italian and French. Being a child he began learning Classical Spanish Theatre, through the Tesoro del Teatro Español by Quintana, a present from his father. He started to write dramatic essays since he was very young. He worked in Matanzas with his uncle in law, Don Simón de Ximeno, married with a sister of her mother, who got him a job in the office of a Havana hardware in 1832. In 1833, when cholera plague broke out in Havana, he returned to his hometown.
He published in Aguinaldo Habanero, El Plantel, El Álbum, La Cartera Cubana, El Prisma, Flores del Siglo, El Artista, Revista de la Habana, Revista Universal. In Matanzas he collaboraed in La Aurora and El Yumurí. His drama El Conde Alarcos, according to critics, was successfully premiered in Havana, in 1838.
Among his theatre plays are: "Un poeta en la corte", "Por el puente o por el río", unfinished, and "Una intriga personal", definitively missed.
Accompanied by his brother Federico, and paid by his friends and admirers he started a trip hoping to regain his health, to the United States, London and Paris, in May, 1846. They returned in November, 1849. Together with his brother, Federico, he published "Los cantares del montero" (Matanzas, Imprenta del Comercio, 1841), signed as Miraflores, while his brother did it as El camarioqueño. He also made use of the pseudonym Florindo in some poems published by La Aurora de Matanzas in 1836.

Actress Raquel C. Revuelta Planas was born.

Raquel Revuelta was born in Havana, on November 14th, 1925 and passed away in that city on January 24th, 2004. Her chilhood took place in a very humble social environment, together with her parents and her sole brother, Vicente, also actor.
She began her artistic career in 1936, in the Corte Suprema del Arte (Supreme Court of Art) and in La Escala de la Fama (The Scale of Fame), programs dedicated to the search of new art values.
In 1941 she founded the Teatro Popular (People´s Theatre) and began working in radio, in Mil Diez (1010 Kc) radio station. She was member of the Sociedad Cultural Nuestro Tiempo (Our Time Cultural Society ) which joined the most progressist artists and intellectuals from those years, and left a deep imprint in Cuban cultural live. In 1950 she staged Juana de Lorena (theatre) reaching numerous awards and paving her way to all media, thus becoming first TV actress, where she performed two steady weekly programs. In 1953 she made her debut in movies.In 1958, she settled the Grupo Teatro Estudio, together with her brother, Vicente, where she has worked as acrtress, directress and general directrees for over 36 years. She travelled to
Mexico, Spain, Venezuela, China, Soviet Union, Switzerland, Germany, France, Angola, Bulgaria, Portugal, Nicaragua, and Egypt.She was jury in literary contests and Film Festivals, both in Cuba and abroad . She also practiced teaching and formation of actors, being appointed Titular Professor of the Higher Studies Arts Institute (ISA), where she also worked as Dean of the Performing Arts Faculty.
She was General Directoress of Teatro Estudio; President of the Centro Latinoamericano de Creación e Investigación Teatral de Cuba (Latin American Center of Theatre Research and Creation of Cuba) a cultural institution of artistic promotion and research which gathers numerous Ibero America Theatre specialists.
Distinguished as Honoris Causa Doctor in Arts, from the Higher Studies Arts Institute (ISA), she received the highest awards and decorations conferred by Cuba: the Félix Varela and Juan Marinello Orders; Por la Cultura Nacional Award; National Award on Theatre 1999, Honor Coral Award in the 1997 New Latin American Film Festival.

Writer David Buzzi was born.

Writer David Buzzi was born. He graduated on Social Sciences in 1960 and on Laws, in the University of Havana. Collaborator of El Mundo, Unión, La Gaceta de Cuba, Casa de las Américas, among others. His novel Los desnudos (The Naked) won Mention in the Casa de las Américas Contest in 1966, and in 1968 he won the Novel Prize in the UNEAC Contest with La Religión de los Elefantes.

Mayor General Vicente García Memorial in Las Tunas City is inaugurated.

In November 14th, 1987, the Mayor General Vicente García Memorial in Las Tunas City is inaugurated.
Considered as one of the most beautiful constructions of that city, it rises up majestic and solemn, like an attesting witness of the house where the brave man from the Ten Years War was born in Las Tunas. Town´s worthy heritage, in his wide main hall scientifics, sportsmen and women, artists, personalities has been decorated, and outstanding workers from different mass organizations has been awarded. It is a permanent venue of great events, cultural projects, worshops, lectures, and other activities.
It was declared National Memorial, and treasures and exhibits valuable items belonging to Vicente García and his family, as well to those courageous men and women who like him struggled in the Cuban fields along the 1868 Liberation War.
