José Antonio Tenreiro Gómez was born on January 30, 1920, artistically known as Tito Gómez, he moved in the world as if walking along a tropical sidewalk (such was the title of its most famous song), in the Cuban musical history with the affection of the people who welcomed him and his performances.
In many of his performances, for dozens of years of artistic life, at the request of his audiences he had to repeatedly sing his Vereda Tropical (Tropical Sidewalk), which he versioned with freshness.
He began his contact with music at the age of 12, in a musical competition at the National Theater and he won several awards.
His premiere as a professional singer took place on March 13 1938. He was advised to find an artistic name and that is how his nickname Tito Gómez came to be.
He was part of musical ensembles of great prestige like the Conjunto Riverside and Orquesta JorrÃn. Tito Gómez died in Havana on October 15, 2000.
