Ceramist Fernando Velázquez Vigil is born on March 15th, 1950. He studied in the National School of Arts and in San Visual Arts Aceademy, where he registered in 1970. From his early moments he outstood as painter and ceramics was where he got the highest acknowledgements in Cuba and in other countries where his works were exhibited: Italy, Rumania, Japan, Germany, Poland, Holland, and Denmark. He participated as Jury in numerous events, and among his awards are: UNEAC Salon and René Portocarrero Award 1990; and awards in I and II Ceramics Biennial,1989 and 1999. According to Manuel López Oliva, painter and art critic, Fernando Velázquez Vigil´s ceramic work is the first one that takes daily use objects and carry them to the universe of artistic creation. Among his finest works are: “The Typewiter” and “Kept in a Glass” Because of a heart stroke he died in Havana in July 31st, 2002
