He was born in Sagua la Grande in February 7th, 1909. At the age of nine he got deep into the study of music under the guidance of his father, Jaime Prats, and professor Emilio Reynoso, and some years later he concluded his basic musical formation in the Orbón Conservatory. His debut as violinist took place when he was only thirteen years old in the Cuban Jazz Band, first orchestra of this type created in Cuba, conducted by his father. Almost at the same time he joined the Havana Symphonic Orchestra founded by maestro Gonzalo Roig .His first work as orchestra conductor took place in the ArquÃmides Pous´ Theatre Company. Later he was at the head of different groups. He founded and conducted the Orquesta Sinfónica del Aire (Symphonic Orchestra of the Air), of the Orquesta de Cámara del CÃrculo de Bellas Artes (Chamber Orchestra of Fine Arts Circle), Vice Director of the Orquesta Filármonica de La Habana, (Philarmonic Orchestra of Havana), Musical Director of RHC Cadena Azul, (RHC Blue Network), Conductor by oposition contest of the Symphonic Orchestra of the Ministry of Education, musical director of Channel 4, TV; founder and director of the Jorge Anckermann Theatre Group in the Martà Theater, musical director of the Teatro LÃrico de La Habana. He made music for theatre, but previously he had composed, Una rosa de Francia, among others, created at the age of 15.This work is considered as a classical piece of the traditional Cuban songbook.Author of numerous zarzuelas, being the most well-known.:La perla del Caribe, MarÃa Belén Chacón, La Habana que vuelve, Amalia Batista, Guamá and Soledad.
