He was born in Havana in December 17th, 1896 and died in September 16th, 1971. He studied elementary and high school in the Colegio de Belén. He was sugar cane colonist, asset-broker, and movie manager. He collaborated in Revista de Avance, Carteles, Social, América Libre, Revista de la Habana. From 1929 to 1965 he collaborated in El Mundo (daily newspaper). He was member, since 1929 and secretary, in 1934, of the Segunda Liga Antimperialista (Second Anti-Imperialist League).
Representing it he travelled to the former Soviet Union. He joined the International Committee on defense of Serguei M.Eisenstein´s Que viva México! He was associate director and correspondant of Experimental Hollywood magazine (1932-1935). In 1935, when Masas magazine, from which he was founder, was closed because of its anti-imperilist character, he was imprisoned for six months. Chief Editor of Selecta (1937). He won the Report Award by his work on John. J. Moran, and the First Mention on Essays by his work \\\"Bojeo y penetración de Contrabando\\\" in the contest issued by the Direction of Culture of the Ministry of Education in 1938. Professor of the Academy of Dramatic Arts of the Free School of Havana (Academia de Artes Dramáticas de la Escuela Libre de La Habana) (1939-1943).
From 1942 to 1961 he worked as professor in the Summer School of the University of Havana (Escuela de Verano de la Universidad de La Habana). Besides, he taught in the Manuel Márquez Sterling Journalism School. In June 1944 he won the Enrique José Varona journalistic award. From 1949 he directed the Cinematography Departament of the University of Havana and collaborated in the creation of the Art Movie section of the University of Oriente, in 1952. He was a Cuban delegate to the First Meeting for Teaching of Journalism, held by UNESCO in París.
He presided the Group of Theatre and Movies Editors (Agrupación de Redactores Teatrales y Cinematográficos), and was founder member of the Pen Club of Cuba. He attended to film festivals of Mar del Plata (1948), Venice (1950), Cannes (1956 and 1964), Karlovy-Vary (1962 and 1964), Moscow (1963). Besides, he travelled through United States, Mexico, Brazil, Spain, Belgium, England and China. He also delivered numerous lectures on movies and published works on this theme in collective works.
