Composer and guitarist Patricio Ballagas was born
17 de Marzo de 1879
He was born in Camagüey in March 17th, 1879 and died in Havana in february 15th, 1924. He cultivated the Cuban trova song. The general pattern among Cuban music composers was writing on 2 x 4 , however, this author, who knew the musical technique, composed his songs in 4 x 4 aka \"compasillo\", this characterized him.
It could be said that his songs are eminetly rhythmics. neihter ad libiitum, nor tempo rubato are not noted in them. His highest creation was the use of double text and superimposed melody that exalted the second voice, counterchant or counterapoint created by him, for the Cuban trova style. With the just mentioned counterpoint style he got that the second voice became a melodic-harmonic language wih its own individuality.
Until his death he joined a duo with Alejandro Montalbán, and with Bienvenido León, Tirso DÃaz y Ramón León, they were the Cuarteto Nano. His most popular creation is \\\"Timidez\\\", premiered in 1914. Also: \\\"Te vi como las flores\\\", \\\"Nena\\\", \\\"No quiero verte\\\" and \\\"Él\\\".

Researcher and History Professor Sergio Aguirre passed away

Sergio Aguirre was born in 1914 in Havana and died on March 17, 1993. Aguirre gained fame as a researcher and history professor.
In 1941, he became a Doctor in Philosophy and Letters at the University of Havana and later for many years he worked as history and geography professor in several institutes in Havana.
He also taught at the University of Havana and became the principal of the School of History of that Cuban educational center.
He collaborated with different newspapers and magazines, and represented Cuba in many international forums.
He was a member of the Cuban Society of Historical and International Studies and a consultant to the Institute of History of the Academy of Sciences of Cuba.
