He was born in Santiago de Cuba, in November 18th, 1907 and died in Havana City, in July 14th, 2003. Musician (Tres, guitar and clarinet player, as well as singer). He played the armónico (harmonic), an instrument created by himself, a combination of tres and guitar with a string combination of his own. When he was ten years old and so, his family moved to Santiago de Cuba, where Francisco got in contact with the Maestros of the trova santiaguera, particularly, with Sindo Garay, always admired by him.
He became friend of the TrÃo Matamoros and with Lorenzo Hierrezuelo. Being a child he played the tres, first, and the guitar, later. He studied solfeggio and clarinet. He joined the Municipal Band of Santiago de Cuba, conducted by his professor Enrique Bueno. In the thirties, Francisco Repilado joined groups from Santiago de Cuba, like the Cuarteto de Trovadores Orientales and the Cubanacán quartet. Later he joined a quintet in which Ñico Saquito (Antonio Fernández) also played. Since 1934 he settled in Havana, where he played the clarinet in the Municipal Band. Together with Lorenzo Hierrezuelo he joined the Cuarteto Hatuey. In 1937 the quartet had a six-month tour through Mexico, although with changes concerning to his earliest formation.
During these years, Francisco Repilado worked in two Mexican film productions: Tierra brava and México Lindo. In 1948 he joined the duo Los Compadres with Lorenzo Hierrezuelo. In 1998 he actively participated in the recording of the Grammy winner CD Buena Vista Social Club.
