He was born in June 18th, 1890 in Bayamo, Oriente, and became a bachelor in that former province. He graduated in the Pennsylvania State Normal School and in the Northwestern University of Chicago (U.S.A.). He travelled along different countries. He collaborated in El Cubano Libre, El Pensil, El Renacimiento, all from Santiago de Cuba, and in Havana publishings El FÃgaro, Bohemia, El PaÃs, Diario de la Marina, Revista Avance. Besides he collaborated in Proa (Buenos Aires, Argentine), in Revista das Academia do Brasil, and in others. He was one of the founders of Orto, from Manzanillo. He was president of the Club Atenas, member of the Junta de Gobierno de la Asociación de Escritores y Artistas Americanos and member of the Instituto Nacional de Prevención y Reformas Sociales. In 1960 he won the Award of the Academy of History of Cuba by his book Oriente (bibliografÃa de una provincia). Some years later he went to live abroad.
