1930
Poet, novelist and essay writer, Pablo Armando Fernández borns.

He borns in the Delicias Sugar Mill, former Oriente province in March 2nd, l930. He studied elementary school in his hometown and high school in Cuba and in the United States. Afterwards he followed courses in the Univesity of Columbia (New York). From l945 to l959 he lived in the U.S.A.
In the Casa de las Américas, contests he won novel award by \"Los niños se despiden\" (1968) and poetry mention by Libro de los héroes (1963). In 1969 he got the accésit to Adonais Award with \"Un sitio permanente\" ; in 1985, he won Critics Award by \"Campo de amor y de batalla\", and in 1995 by El talismán y otras evocaciones. He has participated as Jury of the Casa de las Américas Award; in the Jury of the New Latin American Film Festival of Havana and in the Miguel de Cervantes Award. He has travelled through Europe, Asia, Africa, America and Australia, attending to numerous meetings of writers and Book Fairs.
His academic labour have lead him through dozens of the most reputed universities of U.S.A., Canada, Mexico, Panamá, Venezuela, Colombia, Puerto Rico, Barbados and Dominican Republic. A similar labour he has developed in European and Asian countries, outstanding his work in Great Britain where he was Cultural Counsellor for three years.
In Cuba, he was vicedirector of Lunes de Revolución (1959-1961) and secretary of edition of Casa de las Américas (1961-1962), Chief of publishings of the National Commissión of Cuba in UNESCO (1966-1971), member of the Publishing Council of the Academy of Sciences of Cuba (1971-1987) and Secretary of the Cuban Center of the International PEN Club, and Director of Unión magazine (1987-1994). In 1996 he was elected National Award on Literature.
He is numerary member of the Cuban Academy of Language and correspondent in the Royal Academy of Laguage. Numerous national and international awards has been conferred to him. The XII Havana Book Fair (2003) was dedicated to Pablo Armando Fernández on behalf of his whole life work.

Composer, professor, violinist and orchestra Amadeo Roldán died

He was born in ParÃs in July 12th, 1900 and adopted his mother´s citizenship: the Cuban. He died in March 2nd, 1939. In his short life he joined the Society of Chamber Music, the Symphonic and Philarmonic Orchestras of Havana and others. He was founder of the Escuela Normal de Música (Regular School of Music), director of the Musical Conservatory. He linked with avant-gardé artists and together with Fernando Ortiz he spread Cuban folkloric values. With Alejandro GarcÃa Caturla he was a pioneer of Cuban symphonic Art. When he died, in full creative ability, he left a worthy and unquestionable musical heritage.

Monthly cultural bulletin from Juventud Rebelde newspaper. Some time later it became a fortnight publishing until number 41, when it began as an independent publishing. His first director was Jesús DÃaz. This publishing has covered each and every field of Cuban and Latin American cultural fields, in politics, sociology, theatre, films, architecture, poetry, music, visual arts, etc. Among its collaborators are: Guillermo RodrÃguez Rivera, Luis Rogelio Nogueras, Elsa Claro, Excilia Saldaña, Helio Orovio, Enrique de la Uz, José Luis Posada, Raúl Roa, Julio Le Riverend, Félix Pita RodrÃguez, Fayad JamÃs and many others renowned Cuban and foreign personalities such as Mario Benedetti, Roque Dalton, etc.
