e was born in Havana, in January 21st, 1908 and died in July 30th, 1968. He studied with Maestro Pedro Sanjuán. At the age of 16 he joined Don Anpiazu orchestra as saxophonist , but later he dedicated to pay drum; besides he played, guitar and vibraphone. After his earliest compositions: “Tus lágrimas”, “Florecita”; he premiered “Ilusión china”; in 1931, that gave him certain popularity. Later he composed “Trigueñita”, “Oye mi guitarra”, “Flor de ausencia”; “Mira que eres linda”, “Serenata guajira”, “Si yo pudiera hablarte” and “El amor de mi bohío” in 1937. For almost all his artistic life he dedicated to orchestra conducting. He created music for several films, among them: Tam Tam and Embrujo, antillano. He was one of the pioneers of Cuban radio broadcasting, by playing his songs in great audience programs. In 1946 he became President of the Society of Authors of Cuba.
