The World Day on Poetry proclaimed by the General Conference of the UNESCO, was firstly arranged in March 21st, 2000. In spite of the brief time to be origanized, this day was celebrated in several member states: (Germany, Korea, Côte d’Ivoire, Cuba, Egypt, Slovakia, Federation of Russia, France, Hungary, India, Italy, Lebanon, , Luxemburgo, Morocco, Mexico, Paraguay, Poland, Senegal, Turkey, Tunez and Uruguay) as well as in the venue of the UNESCO.
This day assists to support poetry, concretely to foster the efforts made by small editors who try to penetrate the book market by publishing more and more works by young poets, by returning to orality, it is to say to live show, because nowadys poetry recitals attracts more and more people; by restablishing the dialogue between poetry and the other arts – theater, dance, music, painting, ...- and with current themes such as peace culture, no violence, tolerance,..; Also the poetry image depicted in social mass media so that poetry art would be considered not outdated, but an art which allow society as a whole to retrieve and affirm its identity.
