Gerardo Castellano GarcÃa was born on October 21, 1879, in Key West, United States and died on August 21, 1956 in Havana. With his work Panorama histórico he won in 1936 the First Prize in the national competition of the Ministry of Education.
He was son of the Commander of the Liberation Army Gerardo Castellano Lleonart.
He took his first studies in his native city, and at the same time he worked in a cigar factory. He came to Cuba in 1899 with his family. Here he took piano and violin lessons. In 1900, he was appointed in a modest position in the General Treasury of the Republic, later Ministry of Treasury, where he worked until his retirement.
He was a member of the Academy of History, the Geographical Society of Cuba, and other Cuban and foreign cultural institutions. He collaborated with different publications, like El Diario de Cuba, El Mundo Cubano, Revista Bimestre Cubano, Bohemia, as well as in others in Guanabacoa, where he lived. He used the pseudonym of Gerardo Casiol.
