Abolition of slavery was proclaimed.
26 de Febrero de 1869
The Assembly of Representatives of the Center of the country, under the ideological guide of Ignacio Agramonte y Loynaz, proclaimed the abolition of slavery in Cuba on February 26 1869.
The radical decision by the patriots of Camaguey had its closest antecedent in the Demajagua when Carlos Manuel de Céspedes rose up in arms and gave the freedom to his slaves, which marked the beginning of the war for independence, on October 10 1868.
Some time later, exactly on April 10 1869, the Constitution of Guaímaro, approved by the Cuban independence fighters, would proclaim in its article 24: "All the inhabitants of the Republic are completely free."
Years later, the topic of slavery was also an issue retaken by Cuban writer José Martí who wrote in one of his poems:
Yo se de un pesar profundo I know of a deep pain
Entre las penas sin nombre Among nameless sorrows
La esclavitud de los hombres The slavery of men
Es la gran pena del mundo. Is the greatest sorrow of the world

He was borns on February 26, 1962. Graduated from the University of Havana as Licentiate in Geography. He has published stories in numerous Cuban and foreign anthologies, such as: Los últimos serán los primeros, Recurso extremo, Contactos, Fábula de Ángeles, El ánfora del diablo, El cuerpo inmortal (Cuban erotic stories), Toda esa gente solitaria (Cuban stories on AIDS), Aire de Luz and others, as well as in the magazines: Anuario de la UNEAC 1994, Muchacha, La Gaceta de Cuba, Letras Cubanas, Juventud Técnica, Exégesis (Puerto Rico), Camión de ruta (Peru) and others.
Member of the Association of Writers and Artists of Cuba (Unión de Escritores y Artistas de Cuba, UNEAC) and of the Saíz Brothers Association ( Asociación Hermanos Saíz).
