He was born on October 27th, 1908. He started his guitar studies guided by Pepe Banderas and Sindo Garay, in the capital of Oriente. During the 1930´s, already in Havana, he was the trovador who reached a higher quality in his vocal and instrumental performances of music from Cuba and other Latin American countries. Father of good accompanists guitarists, he has had a plead of disciples who have conformed a Cuban school of popular guitar. Author of a quite worthy book : "La guitarra, su técnica y su armonÃa", in which he makes public a new guitar technique. In his guitar transcriptions he uses of a new writing system. Also author of: "Diccionario de acordes", "Un nuevo panorama de la modulación y su técnica", both unedited. Very praised by Andrés Segovia when he visited Cuba. He was professor of the Seminar of Popular Music and of the Cuban Society of Musical Authors, as well as Technical Adviser of Arts Instructors School. Professor of esthetics and psicology of music.
