The first official game of Baseball or Pelota took place.

The first official game of Baseball or Pelota between two teams organized in Cuba took place on December 27, 1874.
The organizer of this game was Emilio Sabourin, a young Cuban man who learned the basics of this sport in the American universities.
In this first game, the Habana Béisbol Club and the Matanzas Béisbol Club teams participated. The challenge finished 51 runs to 9 in favor of Havana.
With time, baseball became very popular in Cuba until it became the Cuban national sport.
Baseball or pelota is also an inspiration source for national composers who make reference to this sport in their works.

Pianist and composer Laureano Fuentes Pérez died.

He was born in September 14th, 1854 and died in December 27th, 1927. Son of Laureano Fuentes Matons. Outstanding pianist.
As a composer he has composed songs as: Rapsodia
cubana, ElegÃa, Marcha triunfal, Idilio, las fantasÃas Oriente y Brulé, los caprichos La mocita y GalimatÃas, el vals Alina and several dances.

Writer Leopoldo Victor Berriel Fernandez died.

He was born in Güines in September 14th, 1843 and died in Havana, in December 27th 1927. Dean of the Lawyers College ( 1868 - 1888 ), number associate of the Sociedad Económica de Amigos del PaÃs (Economic Society of Friends of the Country) and rector of the University of Havana from 1898 to 1915. Among his works are: Influencia del cristianismo en el derecho penal de los romanos (1869).
