Death of Carlos Manuel de Céspedes

Carlos Manuel de Céspedes died in February 27th, 1874.The great importance of his life has been outstood by books as well as by many works by visual artists. For instance his statue presiding Old Havana Arms Square.
The monument site at La Demajagua National Park, in Granma province is also related with him. There was La Demajagua sugar mill, from which Cespedes together with a group of patriots started the Cuban Independence War in October 10th, 1868.
Both, La Demajagua as San Lorenzo, where Céspedes was shot fighting against Spanish regular troops, are officially declared National Monument.

He was born on February 27, 1928. He studied in the School of Arts and Crafts. Fighter in the armed attack to the Moncada Garrison (July 26th, 1953); expeditionary in the “Granma” landing (December 2nd, 1956) and Commander of the Rebel Army in the Sierra MAestra mountain range. Member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Cuba. Vicepresident of the Council of State of the Republic of Cuba. Author of musical compositions, mainly songs and boleros, protruding among them: “Decide tú”, “Tiempo ausente”, “Un beso de recuerdo”, “Hablo a tu corazón”, “Fue anoche”, “Es soledad”, “Lupita”, “A Santiago” and others.
