1808
Writer Miguel de Cárdenas y Chavez was born.

He studied Philosophy in the Real Instituto de San Isidro, in Madrid, and the first year of Laws. He joined the army and served in the Guardia Real (Royal Guard). He was detached in the Regimiento de la Habana as lieutenant. Later, being captain, he joined the Regimiento de Valencey. Some time later, he joined the Milicias de Caballería as Attached Colonel.
He was Notable Associate in the Sociedad Económica Amigos del País (Economic Society of Friends of the Country), voter of the Junta de Maternidad y Beneficencia and member of the Junta Superior de Instrucción Pública. Besides he was Management Counsellor, Lord of the Bed Chamber and Senator of the Kingdom. He collaborated in La Prensa, Diario de La Habana, El Artista, Revista de La Habana. He published, either in prose or in verse, in the Gaceta de Puerto Príncipe´s weekly pulp of daily customs. He died in Havana on January 1st, 1890.

Writer Miguel Teurbe Tolón y de la Guardia was born.

He studied in a public school in his birthplace and with a group of private professors. With them he learned latinity, rhetorics, natural sciences and philosophy. Besides he studies English, French and Italian. He collaborated Aguinaldo Matancero and in La Aurora del Yumurí, daily in which he became Chief Editor. He settled La Guirnalda, supressed by the Spanish Government.
He was official interpreter of the Real Hacienda (Royal Treasure Department) and professor of history, philosophy, English, fencing and rhetorics. He explained Natural Philosophy in the Sociedad Filarmónica de Matanzas.His theatre plays Un casorio (A Marriage) and Una noticia (A News) were staged in Matanzas. In un cenacle of that city he made public his Course on Literature, which he did not published. He imparted classes on literature in the Auxiliary School of the University of Havana.
In 1848 he was appointed facultative associate of the Liceo Artístico y Literario de La Habana. He collaborated in La Prensa, El Faro Industrial, Flores del Siglo, Diario de Avisos, La Floresta Cubana, La Piragua, Brisas de Cuba, El Duende. He was forced to emigrate to the United States in 1848 because of his independentist ideas. In New York he dedicated to teaching and took up the Secretaryship of the Junta Cubana Anexionista. He worked in the expeditionary projects led by Narciso López. He was secretary of the Legation of the Repúblic of Costa Rica in Washington.
He published El Tiple Cubano and El Tiple Libre in the United States of America; He was editor in chief of La Verdad, and directed El Cubano, El Papagayo and El Cometa; He was in charge of the Hispanic American section of the Herald, from Nueva York. The majority of his poems written in English were published in Waverley Magazine, from Boston. The anthology El laúd del desterrado (1858) gahers some of his poetries. He translated from English the History of the United States, Emma Williard, and The Common Sense, by Tomás Payne. He returned to Cuba, already ill, in August 1857, after having been supressed the death penalty against him. He made use of the pseudonyms Lola, La Lola filibustera, Tello Rubio Montegú, Alfonso de Torquemada. He died in his birthplace, Matanzas in 16th, 1857.

Painter Miguel Melero Rodríguez was born

He was born in Havana in September 29th, 1836 and died in that city in June 28th, 1907. First Cuban director of San Alejandro Academy of Painting and Sculpture, being in charge of it for about 30 years.Pupil of the Academy and kept on studying in Madrid and Paris under the guidance of the painters Cabanel and Gerome and of the sculptors Carpeaux and Falguiere.

Manuel Álvarez Álvarez, the forerunner of the radio in Cuba was born.

Manuel Álvarez Álvarez (aka “Manolín”), one of the precursors of radio in Cuba, was born in Asturias (Spain) in September 29th, 1891 and being very young,he moved to Cuba. He died in Cainbarien, Villaclara province, in March 30th, 1906.
In the early years of the 1920s, Manolín Alvarez began to develop a very active work as a radio ham in Caibarién and he also systematically made some transmissions.
In Caibarién there is a significant museum which reflects the aspects of the work of this unique Asturian who was directly associated with the beginnings of the radio in Cuba.

Actor Bartolomé Adolfo Llauradó Salmerón was born.

He was born in Santiago de Cuba, on September 29th, 1941 and died in Havana on November 4th, 2001.
He began acting in his hometown, as part of the artistic team of CMKC radio station, but it was in Havana where he became famous, first in theatre and later in films because of his fabulous histrionic qualities.
In the silver screen he got anthological characters in Manuela and in the third story of Lucía film critics has considered him a kind of actor fetiche for Humberto Solás, as well as in El hombre de Maisinicú, by Manolo Pérez, and Retrato de Teresa and Las profecías de Amanda, both by Pastor Vega.
Most recently he got interested in documentary making and collaborated with just graduated professionals from the International School of Film and TV in San Antonio de los Baños.
Her took part in international Film Festivals held in Spain, Moscow, France, Brazil as well as in international theatre Festivals in Havana, Camagüey, Spain and Yugoslavia, among others.
His continuous and highly reputed presence in the four media: film, Radio, TV and Theatre endorsed this actor as one of the most outstanding in our cultural environment.

Xiomara Lena Palacio Bello actriss was born.

She was born on September 29 th, 1942, Long time Actress and purpeteer enjoying a great working life in the Teatro
Nacional de Guiñol, from whicjh she is founder —Don Juan Tenorio, Brígida, 1965 ; La corte de Faraón, Asamblea de Mujeres, La loca de Chaillot; La cucarachita Martina, by Abelardo Estorino; El mago de Oz—.
More recently she has collaborated with the Centro Promotor del Humor —La divina moneda, collective creation (directed by. Osvaldo Doimeadiós, 2002) and Teatro Pálpito —Con ropa de domingo, by M. Chávez (directed by. Ariel Bouza, 2003)—. He performed the play La Nana, version by René Guerra, in the Belleview Hospital Unitted States of America, He has participated in the making of the short feature fiction film Maldita Genoveva (directed by. V. Córdova and N. Villazón, 1995).

Alberto Pedro Torriente, playwright and actor was born.

He was born in Havana, in September 29th, 1954, and died in June 5th, 2005.
He was graduated from the National School of Theater on performing.
He worked as professor of History of Universal Theater in the Faculty of Performing Arts of the Higher Studies Art Institute of Havana.
He had imparted courses and magistral classes on drama in the Real Escuela Superior de Artes Dramáticas of Madrid, Spain; in the University of Toronto, Canada; in the Dramatic Society of Maracaibo- Venezuela, and in the first Internacional Meeting of Playwrights in Río de Janeiro- Brazil.
He joined the casts of the Theatre of Popular Art Popular Bertolt Brecht Political Theatre Group, groupings which premiered his early dramatic works.
In 1987 he founded, together with his wife, and outstanding theatre directress Miriam Lezcano the Teatro Mío Group, writing for it until his death.
Acknowledged and polemic, his speech was sharp, direct and questioning of the Cuban reality. He is one of our leading playwrights from 1986 to 1995.
Member of the SGAE since 1989.
Some of his plays has been staged by La Mateodora, from Miami, U.S.A. (‘Manteca” and “Delirio habanero”); as well as by groups specially arranged to stage some of his plays, such as “Manteca”, performed in Barcelona, Spain; and “Week-end en Bahía” , also in Barcelona.
In 1997 “Manteca” was premiered by French actors in Paris, France, as part of the Festival on Read Theatre held in the Centro Miguel de Cervantes where a public debate with its autor took place, as well as performing the play in Le Mans. France and in the Avignon Festival, France.
