Vicar Francisco Xavier Conde y Oquendo was born.

He was born in December 3th, 1733 and died on October 5th, 1799. He studied Humanities with the Jesuists. He graduated as Bachelor in Arts and Doctor in Teology in the University of San Jerónimo. He was appointed General Vicar and Vicar of the Diocese of Havana. He taught Moral and Holy Writings in San Carlos Seminar. He got the title of Lawyer. He took the charge of Curchwarden of the Ecclesiatical Curia of Havana. He moved to Spain where he became quite estimated.
He was appointed by Pio VI, by recommend of the Council of India, in the charge of Protonotario Apostólico and Knight of the Golden Cross. He is associated to the guild of the Arcades of Rome with the name of Ermindo Abidense. He moved to Mexico where his fame was greater than in Cuba. He was appointed in the Church of Puebla and later he took the charge of Canon of Cathedral.
Among his manuscripts was found his Discurso sobre la elocuencia sagrada (Speech on Holy Elloquence) from which a fragment was published in El Álbum de México.

Composer and flutist Florentino Herrera died.

He was born in Havana, on February 6th, 1895 and died in Switzerland on December 3rd, 1929. His musical learning took place in his hometown. He got an scholarship to keep on studying in New York, then he went to París, where he studied composition with D'Indy in the Schola Cantorum. Remarkable flutist who became successful in his presentations, both in the United States of America, as well as in Europe. In his compositions he followed impresionist line, but from Cuban roots, as it is noted in his Capricho cubano para orquesta, Danzas cubanas para piano, as well as in his chamber music, in Cantos sin palabras para piano, and in his piano songs. His early death meant a lost personality in Cuban music.
