He was born in Havana, on February 6th, 1895 and died in Switzerland on December 3rd, 1929. His musical learning took place in his hometown. He got an scholarship to keep on studying in New York, then he went to París, where he studied composition with D'Indy in the Schola Cantorum. Remarkable flutist who became successful in his presentations, both in the United States of America, as well as in Europe. In his compositions he followed impresionist line, but from Cuban roots, as it is noted in his Capricho cubano para orquesta, Danzas cubanas para piano, as well as in his chamber music, in Cantos sin palabras para piano, and in his piano songs. His early death meant a lost personality in Cuban music.
