Pianist, composer and singer María Cervantes was born. Genuine interpreter of Cuban musical folklore. Daugther of Ignacio Cervantes, who was her first guide. Later, succesively she studied with professors Gonzalo Nuñez and Enriqueta García. She became popular as singer, pianist and composer around 1930. She recorded great records in the United States of America. Later she joined the Cuban radio where she worked until 1952, enjoying a huge audience. Having a clear and passionate style she introduced in Cuba the speech-singing. Among her compostions are: Lejos de ti, Ignacio, Los lunares, Tomasa, Al ingenio de mi papá and Gratitud.
