Manuel Álvarez Álvarez (aka “Manolín”), one of the precursors of radio in Cuba, was born in Asturias (Spain) in September 29th, 1891 and being very young,he moved to Cuba. He died in Cainbarien, Villaclara province, in March 30th, 1960.
In the early years of the 1920s, Manolín Alvarez began to develop a very active work as a radio ham in Caibarién and he also systematically made some transmissions.
In Caibarién there is a significant museum which reflects the aspects of the work of this unique Asturian who was directly associated with the beginnings of the radio in Cuba.
