He was born in Matanzas in October 1st, 1873 and died in Havana in July 31st, 1932. He collaborated in La Habana Elegante, El Fígaro, Gris y Azul, Revista de Cayo Hueso, El Yara, Cuba y América, and others. Together with José Govín he settled the separatist weekly Los Azules. He was in charge of regular sections in La Nación Weekly. He married with poetress Elena Borrero, sister of Juana (1895). Among his works are Dolorosa (Painful), Previewed in the National Theatre, with music by Eduardo Sánchez de Fuentes; Amor de ensueño y de romanticismo (1908), the group of poems “Flores de hielo” (Flowers of Ice) published in Gemelas together with the poetries by his brother Carlos Pío, and others. Founder member of the National Academy of Arts and Letters.
