Francisco de Oraá, who became an outstanding poet and writer, was born on July 4, 1929 in Havana. It was precisely because of the transcendence of his work as a creator that he was granted the National Prize of Literature in 1993.
He has said that he imagines words, verses and the others call it poetry. In fact he is considered on of the most important Cuban authors in the generation of the 1950s. He has pointed out that he considers that poetry did not come to his life in a given moment but he rather brought it with himself.
Apart from the National Prize of Literature, this Cuban writer has been granted other awards such as the Julián del Casal Prize in 1978 and the Critic's Award in 1986.
He considers his book Ciudad, ciudad (City, city) his best work.
