He was born on October 6, 1915. His mother grandmother imparted him his earliest musical studies. Later he moved to Havana, where he studied piano with Jascha Fishermann and Cesar Pérez Sentenat as well as composition with José Ardevol.
Doctor in Pedagogics from the University of Havana. He was Professor of the Municipal Conservatory, and later in the National School of Arts. He imparted numerous courses on aspects of music in different parts of Cuba. He wrote articles on musical themes in Cuban publishings, an the book Panorama histórico de la música en Cuba. He joined the Grupo de Renovación Musical. He has composed, Fugas para cuerdas, Preludios para piano, Soneras para orquesta, SinfonÃa No.1, Concierto para viento, TrÃo para maderas, as well as works for; voice and piano, choir compositions and some incidental music, and later Canto de héroes (cantata) among other works.
