Soprano Ana Aguado died

She was born in Cienfuegos in May 3rd, 1866 and died in Havana in May 6th, 1921. In 1889 she moved to the United States of America, where she became became soloist in the N.Y. church of St. Francis Javier, by opposition. She took part in numerous festivals aimed to raise funds for the freedom of Cuba, she also took part in other activities together with José Martí. Besides she performed in Spain. In 1898, when the Independence War ended, she returned to Cuba and dedicated to teach music.

Carmen Collado, professoress of choir singing was born.

She was born in Havana in May 6th, 1942. She has worked as professoress in the Amadeo Roldán Conservatory, in the National School of Arts (ENA) and in the Higher Studies Arts Institute (ISA). She has conducted choir groups.

Singer Miriam Ramos was born.

She was born in Havana, in May 6th, 1946. In 1963 she joined the National Polyphonic Choir. She studied in the National Seminar of Popular Music. In 1964 she made her debut as soloist, singing international songs. She plays guitar. In 1969 she toured to Bulgaria. She studied in the Ignacio Cervantes School. She performs in radio and TV programs, as well as in theaters. She has represented Cuba in Festivals held in Bulgaria, Poland, the former Soviet Union, Japan. Her repertoire includes traditional Cuban songs and compositions by Nueva Trova authors.

Poet Luis Beiro Álvarez was born.

He was born in May 6th, 1950. Licentiated in Law in the University of Havana. His poems were translated into Russian, English, Hungarian and Greek. He has published: En las líneas del triunfo (poetry), 1975; En este meridiano (poetry), 1977; Jornada (poetry), 1979; Cartas a Roxana (poetry), 1981; El mundo que nos rodea (poetry), 1983; La gloria del mundo (poetry), 1985.

Danzón interpreter and singer Barbarito Diez died

He was born in Bolondrón, Matanzas on December 4th, 1909 and died in Havana on May 6th, 1995. Since he was four years old he moved to Manatí Sugar Mill, in the former Oriente province. Where he began his artistic activities as amateur. In 1930 he settled in Havana, where next year he joined the trio composed by Graciano Gomez and Isaac Oviedo. In 1935 he joined, the Antonio Maria Romeu typical orchestra, until his last presentations. He has recorded eleven long playing records in which he performs his wide repertory of Cuban danzones.
