It was settled in May 7th, 1962, in Havana, under the guidance of Rogelio Martínez Furé and Rodolfo Reyes Cortés. Along all these years it has fulfilled the task of picking up Cuban dance and musical expressions, according to scientific researches all over the country, this labor was developed by its founder and folkloric adviser, Rogelio Martínez Furé.
In its repertoire are: Yoruba Cycle, Congo Cycle, Rumbas and comparsas, Yoruba-Iyesá Cycle, Abakuá Cycle, Cycle of Popular Music, Alafín de Oyó, Cuban Pictures, Palenque, among others. Among the awards and trophies conferred to this ensemble are: The Golden Barrel and the Silver Necklace, 1975, in the Autumn Games and the XXX International Feasts of the Ville, held in Dijon, France; The Golden Usuta, trophy conferred in Festidanza 74, Arequipa, Perú; Silver Tray, conferred by the Folkloric Festival of Billingliam, England, 1976, and others. It has made 13 international tours and visited 20 countries: France, Belgium, Spain, Hungary, Czechoslovakia Bulgaria, Poland, Rumania, England, Hungary, Yugoslavia, Algeria, Guyana, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Jamaica, Barbados, Peru, Colombia and the formers German Democratic Republic and Soviet Union. It has participated in: Festival of Theatre and Dance, in the Sarah Berhardt Theatre of the Nations, Paris, 1964; VI Festival of Latin American Theatre, Havana, 1966; Carifesta 72, Georgetown, Guyana; Festival of Cuban Popular Art, Havana, 1973; Folkloric Festival of the IV Conference of the Non Aligned Country, Algers, 1973; Celebration Days of the Cuban Culture in the USSR, Moscow, Leningrad and Riga, 1973; II Cervantino International Festival, Guanajuato, Mexico, 1974; Festidanza 74, Arequipa, Peru, 1974; L'Humanité Festival, Paris, 1975; Festivities for the V Anniversary of the Independence of Guyana, Georgetown, 1975 and others.
