Violinist Silvano Boudet died

He was born in Santiago de Cuba on November 27th, 1828 and died in his hometown on March 9th, 1863. Nephew of the musician Pedro Boudet. Orchestra conductor at the Santiago de Cuba Cathedral. He won prizes in Paris. He composed religious music. Author of "La retozona", contradanza.

Juana Borrero painteress, writeress and poetress died

She was born in Havana in May 18th, 1877 and died in March 9th, 1896. Daughter of Esteban Borrero EcheverrÃa, her education took place within an art and literature environment. She studied in "San Alejandro" Arts Academy. She travelled to the United States of America and met José MartÃ. She collaborated in La Habana Elegante, El FÃgaro, Gris y Azul. Besides her wide epistolary and her poems she left some ink drawings an some canvas.

World Chess Champion José Raúl Capablanca passed away.

Capablanca, this great Cuban figure associated with chess, was born in Havana on November 19, 1888 and died on March 9, 1942. He was watching a chess match in New York at that moment.
He is the only Cuban to ever win the World Chess Champion title. He won it in 1921 in the Hasting tournament held in Havana.
He maintained his title until 1927 when he lost the tournament to the grandmaster Alekhine, who never gave Capablanca the possibility to a return game.
Capablanca continues being a motivation source for those who feel great passion in Cuba for this sport intimately related with the development of intelligence.
1975
Journalist Luis Amado Blanco died

He was born in Riberas de Pravia, Asturias, in April 4th, 1903 and died in Rome in March 9th, 1975. He came to Cuba as correspondent of El Heraldo in 1933 to report Gerardo Machado´s dictatorship overthrowning. He settled in Cuba in 1936 and carried on an active cultural life. He won the Justo de Lara and the TalÃa awards, the latter on behalf of his direction of "La dama de Alba" by Alejandro Casona.
In 1951 he won the National Award by his story "Sola". Among his novels are: Ciudad Rebelde. He was the first Revolutionary Cuban Ambassador to Portugal.
Since 1961 he was Cuban ambassadort to the Vatican, where he was Dean of the Diplomatic Corps to the Vatican State.
