He was born in Riberas de Pravia, Asturias, in April 4th, 1903 and died in Rome in March 9th, 1975. He came to Cuba as correspondent of El Heraldo in 1933 to report Gerardo Machado´s dictatorship overthrowning. He settled in Cuba in 1936 and carried on an active cultural life. He won the Justo de Lara and the TalÃa awards, the latter on behalf of his direction of "La dama de Alba" by Alejandro Casona.
In 1951 he won the National Award by his story "Sola". Among his novels are: Ciudad Rebelde. He was the first Revolutionary Cuban Ambassador to Portugal.
Since 1961 he was Cuban ambassadort to the Vatican, where he was Dean of the Diplomatic Corps to the Vatican State.
