He was born on October 10, 1838 and died in Havana on May 9th 1907. Being a child he travelled to Spain, where he initiated his studies. He colaborated in Floresta Cubana, El Correo Habanero, El Tiempo, Cuba Literaria, and others .He settled El Heraldo Cubano, Spanish-English bilingual newspaper together with his brother Antonio. He joined the Reformist Party together with Rafael MarÃa de Mendive, Anselmo Suárez y Romero, Armas y Céspedes, etc. He is banished to Spain and later moved to New York. His name is in the poetic collection Arpas Amigas. He assisted José Martà in the settling of the Cuban Revolutionary Party. Translater of German.
